The backstory: had a couple of hours to kill in Jefferson City waiting on an appointment at urgent care. Found Lisa's on Yelp and knew we had to check it out because the town does not have a lot of independent restaurants. So glad we did because Lisa's was exactly what you want a small town country diner to be! Lots of variety on the menu, but all appropriately southern diner fare. Great coffee with frequent refills from friendly staff. It was obvious that most of the customers were locals and regulars, which is always a good sign. But as newcomers (with out of state plates), we were welcomed and not made to feel out of place at all.

Got almost through my dinner to find a hair on my plate. They came out and got on to my son because his steak was over done, they had to throw it out and fix him another one. It should have been handled differently. Heard other stories where the client was wrong. Used to love this place. Seems since they remodeled it's gone down hill.

There really is a Lisa and she's ON-SITE! The decor is yard sale/flea market. Lots of little signs everywhere. Plenty to read and look at while food is prepared. I ordered the grilled catfish with potato salad, corn bread and side salad. The side salad with wilted lettuce and funky tasting cheese went back to the kitchen. It was replaced with fried okra which was hot, fresh and crispy. Catfish was grilled but I question the freshness of the fish. As the wife of a fisherman...I know old or frozen fish. The potato salad was homemade which is a plus. Our server was really friendly and the restaurant has that home feeling of great food and greater conversations. Heads up. Restrooms are NOT accessible to wheel chairs or obese people. They are super tiny and are one seaters. However they are clean which is always a bonus.

I've been to this establishment several times but I've noticed a drop in the quality of food. Back in the day when it first opened its doors it was a good down home restaurant but now the food tastes bland and pre manufactured.

They have a huge parking lot, lot's of seating. We've been there twice. Both times were "off" hours and they still had a good crowd. They have a large selection of home-style, country cooking ,sandwiches. The food is good and reasonably priced. The service is good. What we like best is the decor. It's "Cracker Barrel" style decor, but better. Lisa has all kinds of old stuff on the walls and everywhere. It's fun trying to figure out what everything is.

This was the sweetest little diner, off of the main drag that was worth the 5 mile drive from the freeway. I get so sick of chain restaurants and intentionally drove a few minutes out of the way to get some real Southern down-home cooking. Lisa's was perfect. The coffee was good, the decor was cute and the food totally hit the spot. Grits just aren't the same in the Northwest. Make the drive!

One of the few interesting and local places in Jefferson County, Lisa's provides good food for a low price. I've been twice and both times the food was decent. The chips are very good, but that's about all I found exciting. If I was in the area, I may try it again.

My family used to go there often and I agree the food is pretty good. The problem we had was more to do with two experiences with waitresses and poor service. On one occasion the waitress took our order and then left us for more than forty-five minutes while we waited for our order! Finally, Lisa came to our table and asked if we were okay. I told her the situation and the fact we felt ignored when we attempted to make eye contact with our waitress, our drinks unfilled. Lisa apologized and we got our food maybe 15-20 minutes later. They had lost the ticket! I understand having an off day, but Lisa could have offered a break on the tab given the fact the experience was rather unpleasant and a waste of our time. Still, we decided to give it another shot. Every business can have an off day right? That's what we thought. We went in for breakfast and my wife ended up wearing syrup on her coat and in her purse. The waitress was not paying attention when putting the syrup on the table. This post is not intended to blast Lisa or her staff as individuals. I'm sure they may be perfectly good people. The intention is to make potential customers aware of issues that can make your dining experience less than that folksy county cookin' atmosphere that is advertised.

I've been here a couple of times and have found the food to be consistently good. The service is also good - my glass was never empty (which is my gauge). You're given a good amount of food, especially when you consider the prices (very inexpensive).

Decent food for a good price. Definitely nothing special here, just southern cooking, cheap prices, and a unique decorations that will keep you browsing the walls while you wait for your food.

Much like 'Cheers' for locals. Lisa is almost always there working hard, watching over all food, engaging w/ customers and keeping service hustling. Food is pretty consistently good, lots of southern favorites. Portions are satisfactory. Anything disappointing? They'll bend over backwards to make your visit a pleasure.

I'm a fan of locally owned restaurants and this is definitely a good ol' fashioned restaurant. It is locally owned by Lisa and she is usually there helping out when you go. We usually go after church on Sunday. Many locals go there and seem to know one another. Good home cooked meals at a reasonable price. The two of us usally get out of there for under $20 including tip. Good variety on the menu. Most meals are just enough, not too much. Service is good. Friendly staff and generally get right to you when you sit down. It is easy to get into, but difficult to get out of if you are making a left turn.

The country fried chicken is yummy! Has a very Knoxville, Tennessee atmosphere. :)

Fried pickles and sweet tea. That's enough right there. Great local ambiance. Friendly service and hearty fare, typical of country diners with choice of meat and veggies. To my mind, this is the best place for a meal in Jeff City.
